Put the above map on satellite mode & follow the Key River out to Georgian Bay to see aerial photos of the entire area.
The Key River is at Route 69 & Key River Junction near Ludgate, Ontario, Canada.
Very close to the upper French & Pickerel Rivers & it is located inThe French River Provincial Park System.
You will park your car/truck & boat trailer at route 69 & Key River Junction at one of the lodges or fishing & hunting camps & load & launch your boat from there for your journey out to Georgian Bay which is an 8 mile trip.
There is no free boat launching or parking available at The Key River Outlet To Georgian Bay.
In recent years we parked & launched at Camp Dore & there are several others there also.
If you are staying at a fish camp out on Georgian Bay they will tell you which place to park your vehicle & boat trailer if you are bringing your own boat & motor.
The Georgian Bay Bass Hole is on the lower Pickerl River & you have to go up the Pickerel River from Georgian Bay or down the Pickerel River from the upper Pickerl River to get to it. If you are coming from the upper Pickerel River you can only go by canoe or kayak as there is a falls to be portaged & then several rapids below the falls that can be hazardous in high or low water conditions.
If your boat is to large you may or may not be able to get to the actual Georgian Bay Bass Hole depending on water levels as you must get past what they call the falling rock & then through a shallow area that is fairly long with rocks in it. Once past the falling rock you must put your motor on shallow water drive & quickly swing your stern to the right or your motor will grind solid rocks. Stay to the right of this channel until you get to the end of it where there are many rocks to avoid with your prop. There is another way into the Bass Hole to the right of the falling rock channel but you can not get your boat all the way in that way. You can get out of your boat & walk around the cliff faces & fish for largemouth & smallmouth off the rocks. We always take a canoe just in case. Some years the water is way up & some years it is way low. Either scenario is not good. The canoe will make it irregardless.

Hi Jim, My brother and I spend a week each year in Canada fishing for muskies. We’ve been to Moon River, Nippissing Lake, Ottawa River, and the Kawarthas. We want to try the French River area, we catch and release everything, just want a picture of a big musky. Can you tell me what area we should concentrate on and do you recommend any cabins(outfiitter). We don’t need a guide. Ken
