The Georgian Bay Bass Hole is dedicated to the best friend & fishing companion I ever had:
Fritts Thomas of Dayton, Ohio.
Fritts passed away at age fifty in 1990.
The Georgian Bay Bass Hole is an educational blog page designed for people new to the area.

We started camping & fishing in The Key River area of Georgian Bay in Ontario, Canada in 1968 when we were in our early twenties & have returned countless times over the years to do it time again & time again.
We would always go eight miles out the Key River by boat & camp out on the islands away from the lodges, cabins & people.

With the wolves, the bear, the moose, Massasauga Rattlesnake & our very good friends The Georgian Bay Gulls.
From our campsite we would explore & fish the entire area.

If you are young & excited about the prospect of catching trophy bass in the wilderness there is no better place to go.
These big Georgian Bay Bass will give you a thrill of a lifetime.
This area is also famous for trophy northern pike, walleye (yellow pickerel) & huge Georgian Bay muskies.
This blog will help you get there & tell you what to do. If you prefer to stay in a cabin or fishing lodge we have links to them in the right hand column.
You will learn about the big ones & where & how to get them.
This blog will teach you what kind of fishing gear & tackle & lures to take with you & how to use them if you do not already know.
This is where we camped for over twenty years year in & year out & it is one of the best big pike holes in the whole area right off the bank of Thomas Rock. In case you are wondering we gave the rock that name ourselves. If you camp here be careful as there are rattlesnake dens behind & to the side of it & plenty of them around this area. The area is also big black bear & moose territory & they walk right by the back of this campsite on their island excursions & crossings. This is a wind sheltered campsite & that is why we liked it not to mention the huge pike you could catch fishing off the bank here. Big pike feed here & in the boulder pile right across from the campsite at 3 P.M. each day. There is 60 foot deep water nearby at the mouth of The Pickerel River & that is why the really big pike like this area.
I remember back then how excited we both were just thinking about it.
We would read the articles & magazines.
I wish the same for you.
And your best fishing friend.
The local people that operate businesses in the Key River Area were very friendly & kind to us over the years.
They will do the same for you.
Please practice catch & release so these big bass can live to fight another day.

interesting! I too have been fishing Georgian Bay since 1965 and for the last 10 years have owned a cottage close to Sans Souci. we go out of Woods Bay. We certainly have our great spots but I’m interested to know { not necessarily where} what factors you think conrtibute to the productivity of your hole? As you are well aware of in the Bay spots that look identical outwardly can produce drastically different results.
Hi Bill,
Love your page – really well done. I am the fellow that purchased the Diamond key Resort. Now, we have fixed it up and it is DiamondKeyLodge.com (never really was a resort). Maggie and David are still runnig it for me and we have made quite a few renovations – but it is still a fishing camp. We have started to work on kayaking … and in partnership with White Squall, this side of the business has really taken off.
In any event, really fun site. I grew up fishing with my grandfather and no doubt have been to the bass-hole. But I will not tell secrets.
Cheers. Peter

Thanks Peter. I envy you being a lodge owner up there & the sea kayakers which are mostly people that really care about our planet. They are much like the original settlers & travel with the paddle & wind. You know the bay & how it is. The Georgian Bay is the best & so are the people that live there.
Thanks For Stopping By.
